What is the purpose of a student run college radio station?

To improve the learning experience of all students
To aid the admissions department in recruiting
To show off my oh-so-superior musical taste
To raise money for the school's endowment
To keep President Obama in office forever
To justify the salary of the professor who supervises the station
To promote diversity in heavy metal music
Why does everything need a purpose?
To retain the FCC license so it can be sold someday to an NPR affiliate
To play jazz and hip hop music to prove that the guilt ridden rich white students aren't racists
To have fun, like any other social club on campus
To improve the quality of life of the students living on campus
To let the community outside of the school know what is going on
To train students what it is like to work for a real radio station
So you can be a DJ after your parents have spent 120K on your education
To broadcast the school's sporting events
To broadcast emergency information (like during the Virginia Tech massacre)
To promote recreational drug use
To facilitate students wanting to "hook up"
To use up the federal funds available for this.
So young male students can play their heavy metal music collection
