In August 1990, Saddam Hussein invaded and took over Kuwait by force. The UN Security Council condemned the action with Resolution 660 and demanded that Iraq military forces leave Kuwait. When Iraq refused to leave, a U.S. led coalition forced Iraq out of Kuwait.
