Fri Aug 8th 2008 1:50 PM	Conversation: They changed the laws a few years ago on mutual funds to require them to distribute capital gains which are declared in December - that are taxable income even though you didn't receive them. If the mutual funds lose value this year, I wonder if they are required to distribute capital losses - and are they deductible? Or only to the extent they are offset by capital gains? This could be a very big mess at year end, and might itself affect the performance of the stock market as tax advisors start thinking about this.	artstone Fix Reply to Delete
