<h2 class="text-align-center">WRHU Mission:</h2><h3 class="text-align-center">Professional Broadcast Training For Hofstra Students</h3><p>At WRHU over three hundred current Hofstra students learn the importance of broadcasting live on an over-the-air FM radio station. Students develop broadcasting & social media skills in multimedia studios with industry standard technology (such as RCS, Wheatstone, Comrex, and Telos).</p><p>Recently, WRHU student created on-air & social media content earned 25 awards from the Press Club of Long Island, 7 awards from the New York State Broadcasters Association, 2 GRACIE awards from the Alliance for Women in Media, and a Pinnacle award from the College Media Association for “Best College Radio Station”</p><p>Over the last year:</p><p>Students reported breaking news live on WRHU FM. They conducted thousands of interviews with local, state, national, and international newsmakers and community members. Students went on site and reported from the NFL Superbowl, the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame induction in Cooperstown, the Belmont Stakes, the New Hampshire Primary, the DNC, the media filing center for the ABC TV United States Presidential Debate in Philadelphia, and local campaign headquarters on election night.</p><p><a href="/wrhu/sports.html">WRHU students converged audio/radio play-by-play with video crafting multiplatform (mobile/web/broadcast) live game content</a> for Hofstra D1 teams and Brooklyn Nets NBA G-League Team the LI Nets.</p><p>WRHU Students are world famous for <a href="/wrhu/sports.html">producing / distributing</a> all 2024-2025 NY Islanders live NHL games audio broadcasts to WRCN FM, WRHU FM, Sirius/XM, NHL.com, and the all-new UBS Arena / NY Islanders app.</p><p>Students also produced and performed on-air roles for live Long Island Ducks baseball broadcasts.</p><p>Of course, at WRHU student air personalities entertained audiences with music shows interviewing local artists and reporting from music festivals.</p><p>For 2025-2026 WRHU student staff will create even more compelling over the air (FM) and social media content as they serve audiences quality products with mentorship from In-house professionals</p><p>WRHU is proud to partner with the <a href="https://sbe15.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers</a>) to develop <a href="https://www.radioworld.com/tech-and-gear/tech-tips/dont-throw-away-your-old-hardware-just-yet" target="_blank" rel="noopener">top-quality tech talent</a> (aspiring Chief Engineers) for radio stations, clusters, and networks. Many professional radio engineers visit WRHU to inspire and teach students at our “Tech Thursday” mentoring sessions.</p><p>Visit the WRHU main office and you will find the <a href="https://abc7ny.com/wabc-long-island-bureau-hofstra-hempstead/11817787/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WABC TV (channel 7 New York City) Eyewitness News Long Island Bureau</a> – one of many productive, inspirational educational partnerships and affiliations that students broadcasters at WRHU experience.</p><h3 class="text-align-center">Mission Accomplished!</h3><p>For more than 60 years, many Hofstra students who participated at WRHU, WVHC, and/or WHCH have gone on to professional media careers. Here is a partial list of <a href="/wrhu/alumni.html">alumni accomplishments</a>.</p><p>WRHU has earned four Marconi Awards from the National Association of Broadcasters (including the first ever Marconi awarded to a non-commercial station). In 2024, College Media Association (CMA) named WRHU "Radio Station of the Year" for a third time.
