With a crowd of 3,105 on hand, the RedHawks scored three times in the first inning to take control of the game and give starter Shane Barringer a lead they would not relinquish. Barringer went five innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out three. Five RedHawks had multiple hits and Michael Hallquist had four RBIs after popping a three-run homer over the left field fence in the eighth inning. Fargo-Moorhead (36-32) takes the series win with the victory and will wrap up the series against Lincoln at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field before heading to Winnipeg and Kane County for a six-game road trip. </span></st1:place> </st1:city> <span style="color: rgb(192, 192, 192);"><span style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"><strong><span class="auto-style7"><div class="auto-style14"> <span class="auto-style30">'</span><br> </div> <big><big> <big><big> <big><big><big> <big> <big><big><big><big> <div> <big><big><big> <font color="#000000" size="2"> <big> <big><span style="color: rgb(192, 192, 192);"><big><big><big><span style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"><span class="auto-style25"><strong><big><big><big><big> <img alt="" src="https://assets.northwoodsleague.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2023/01/Larks-Building-Trademarked-1.png" style="border-style: solid; border-color: inherit; border-width: 1px; " align="left" height="210" width="191" class="auto-style18"></big></big><span class="story_headline"></span></big></big></strong></span></span></big></big></big></span></big></big></font></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></span><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><font color="#000000" size="2"><big><big><big><strong><span class="auto-style29">The Big Sticks Turn the Page, Win Column in a 9-6 Win vs the Bismarck Larks <br></span> </strong><span class="auto-style3"> <span class="auto-style7"> <span class="auto-style24"><br>Bismarck<span style="font-weight: 400"> </span></span></span><span style="font-weight: 400"> -- </span></span></big></big></big></font></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></strong> </span><span class="auto-style3"> <span class="auto-style27">The Badlands Big Sticks make it eight wins in a row against the Bismarck Larks and improve to 9-1 against them this summer. The scoring started in the bottom of the 2nd inning from RBI singles by Thomas Maher (UC San Diego) and Maddox McDonald (Penn St). The third run of the inning scored on a double steal and an error on the second baseman for not squeezing the throw. The Larks added a run in the top of the 3rd, which was a solo home run and a 3-run jack in the top of the 4th to give them the 4-3 lead. Samson Pugh (Texas St) launched a 2-run home run, which was his first big fly of the summer, to give the Big Sticks a 5-4 lead. Big Sticks loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 6th with a 2 RBI double by Connor Massimini (East Texas Baptist) to increase the lead. Pugh added 2 more RBI with a single to extend the lead 9-4. Larks had back to back two outs RBI base-hits to inch closer 9-6. Big Sticks only used 2 pitchers tonight and had a 1-2-3 inning in the 9th to seal the win. Bradon Kosel (Utah Tech) went 5 IP, 2 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, and 6 K. The two hits he allowed were the home runs, but besides that, held his own on the mound, grinding through the 5th inning. Adam Trevino (McMurry College) in his last game as a Big Stick was sensational, going 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, and 4 K to close out the game and only have to use one pitcher out of the bullpen. <a href="https://northwoodsleague.com/badlands-big-sticks/2025/07/27/the-big-sticks-turn-the-page-and-get-back-in-the-win-column-in-a-9-6-win-vs-the-bismarck-larks/">FULL STORY</a></span></span></div> </span></big></big></big></big></big></big></font></big></big></div> </div> <big><big><font color="#000000" size="2"><big> <big> <strong><big> <span style="color: rgb(192, 192, 192);"> <big><big> <big> <span style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"> <big><span class="auto-style7"> <big><big><big> <big> <big><big> <big> <big><big><big><big> <img alt="" src="https://assets.northwoodsleague.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/34/2022/11/TeamHeaderLogo.png" style="border-style: solid; border-color: inherit; border-width: 1px; " align="left" height="143" width="191"></big></big><span class="story_headline"></span></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></span></big></span></big></big></big></span><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><span class="auto-style4"><h1 style="overflow-wrap: break-word; box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 2rem; margin: 1rem 0px; line-height: 1.2; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: &quot;Exo 2&quot;, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;"> Corbett Field Clash Ends Winning Streak<br></h1> </span> <st1:city style="font-weight: bold;" w:st="on"> <st1:place w:st="on"> <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Dickinson </span></st1:place></st1:city><st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">--<span style="color: rgb(192, 192, 192);"><span style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"> </span></span> </span></st1:place> </st1:city> </big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big> </strong><big><big><big> <big> <big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big> <span class="auto-style3">The wild rides were not only available down the road at the North Dakota State Fair on Monday. Those who were at Corbett Field were treated to a roller-coaster-like baseball game between the Minot Hot Tots and Badlands Big Sticks. Despite a big eighth inning, the Hot Tots still came up short, losing 15-10. A struggle keeping the Big Sticks quiet at the plate was evident from the first inning. Connor Massimini and Gavyn Schlotterback pieced together extra-base hits to create the first run of the game. Schlotterback would later score on a sac fly, making the score 2-0 Badlands. Minot got one run in response from an Ethan Reader RBI single to cut the deficit in half but the scoring was only just getting started. Badlands scored two in the second inning with the help of a Minot fielding error, another two runs in the third inning thanks to a triple by Bo Shinkle and three runs in the fourth all scoring on another Schlotterback hit. Down 9-1 halfway through the game, hope was diminishing for the Hot Tots, winners of four straight entering play. Some of that hope was restored after Blake Cavill doubled down the right field line, scoring Robbie Demetree. The Tots were back on the board in the same inning following a bases-loaded walk. In the bottom of the sixth, Jonah Shields launched his first home run of the season and fourth career long ball to make the game 10-4, Big Sticks. <a href="https://northwoodsleague.com/minot-hot-tots/win-streak-comes-to-end-as-rally-falls-short/">FULL STORY</a></span></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></big></font></big></big></div> </div> <big><big><font color="#000000" size="2"><big><big><strong></strong></big></big></font></big></big> <span style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);"><span style="color: rgb(192, 192, 192);"></span></span><small><span style="font-size: 12pt; display: inline !important; float: none;"> As July winds down on the calendar, there's baseball galore to report on the North Dakota American Legion and Babe Ruth scenes from this past week, plus some final results from the 30th-annual Dakota Walleye Classic fishing tournament being held on Lake Sakakawea near Beulah Bay. First, regarding American Legion action on the diamond, seven teams congregated last Sunday &amp; Monday for the opening two rounds of the Class B District 1 tourney in Belfield, with Belfield-South Heart, Hazen, and Garrison nabbing first-round wins over Beulah, Hettinger-Scranton-Lemmon-New England (H-S-L-NE), and the Bismarck Barons, respectively. Then in 2nd-round, winners-bracket games, top-seeded Washburn Post 12 downed Belfield-South Heart Post 144 8-2; and Hazen Post 189, behind a sterling pitching performance from right-handed starter Grady Holen--who tossed a complete-game, 2-hit shutout--blanked the Garrison Titans 4-0. In loser-out play on day 2 of tourney contests, Garrison rallied past Beulah 4-3, eliminating the Cyclones from the tournament, while the Bears of H-S-L-NE ousted Bismarck 10-3. In another survivor's tilt, Belfield-South Heart ended the Bears' season with a 5-2 victory at their expense, while Garrison did likewise to the Knights by a 9-6 tally. That matchup took place in Mandan on day 4 of the tourney at Veterans Memorial Ballpark, BNC National Bank Field, after heavy rain in Belfield forced a change in venue for the remainder of tourney play. Now, in the showdown of tournament-unbeatens on day 3 of play (still in Belfield at William C. Blair Field), Washburn survived Hazen 4-3, putting Post 12 in the driver's seat in pursuit of a district title and accompanying state tournament berth. With Post 189's razor-thin setback to Washburn, the Astros would attempt to reach the championship round taking the long-road; and Hazen took a successful first step by overcoming a 6-2 deficit late in its next game with Garrison to nip the Titans 7-6. That outcome thrust Hazen into another clash with Washburn with the tourney-title on the line; and in that rematch, with the score tied at 0-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning, Post 12 exploded for 6 runs on 4 hits to take command of the contest and eventually notch a 7-2 win over the Astros. Going the distance on the mound for Washburn head coach Brandon Page was ace right-hander Jack Retterath. With the conclusion of District 1 tourney action in Mandan this past Thursday, Washburn will be playing in its first state Legion tournament in 13 summers, while Hazen will be denied a state tournament berth for the first time since 2018. Washburn will now battle state tournament-host Park River in opening-round play of the state B extravaganza next Friday evening, August 1, after conclusion of the tournament's opening ceremony. Other first-round showdowns at state include Thompson facing Langdon, Linton-Ashley-Wishek confronting Velva, and Renville County tangling with LaMoure. Transitioning now to the Class B Babe Ruth State Tournament that kicked off in Park River this past Friday, in opening-round tussles, Gwinner whitewashed Burlington 4-0; Casselton overtook Park River 2-1; Central McLean edged Bottineau 3-2; and Thompson thumped host LaMoure 6-1. In loser-out games on Saturday, Park River blasted Burlington 10-zip and LaMoure blitzed Bottineau 13-2. In winners-bracket encounters, Casselton creamed Gwinner 10-0 and Thompson beat Central McLean 8-1. All those outcomes lead to these Sunday showdowns: in elimination contests, Park River meets Central McLean and LaMoure clashes with Gwinner; in the pairing of tournament-unbeatens, Casselton collides with Thompson. Finally, we'll report the top-finishing teams in this weekend's Dakota Walleye Classic (DWC) headquartered at Lake Sakakawea's Beulah Bay. Repeating as tourney champions and claiming the $16,500 first-prize is the duo of Subart and Huynh whose 10 fish caught weighed a remarkable 61.01 lbs. That winning total exceeded last summer's top total by nearly 10 pounds. Runners-up and winners of $7,000 is the duo of Wendel &amp; Wendel, whose total catch of 10 fish was 57.14 pounds. In a hugely successful weekend of fishing on the Big Lake, six pairs among the total of 190 two-person teams surpassed 50 pounds of fish snagged over two days.</span></span></span></p> <small> <small style="font-family: times new roman;"><small> <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><font size="5"><small><small><small><small> <big style="font-weight: bold;"> <span style="color: rgb(51, 0, 51); font-family: arial;"> <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 102);"> <span class="auto-style20">Filed by Veteran KDKT Sportscaster Jeff Baranick</span></span></span></big><span style="color: rgb(51, 0, 51); font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 102);"><br> Listen for Jeff on <span style="font-style: italic;">Friday Night Live</span> - Friday Nights 9pm/Central<br> <a href="http://www.digitalsyndicate.tv/sportsschedule.html">Check Out This Season's NDHSAA Broadcast/Game Schedule</a><br> </span></span></small></small></small></small></font></span></small></small></small></small> <div class="auto-style14"> <br> <img height="99" src="../SPORTS%20SHORTS%20JOSH.jpg" style="float: left" width="490"><span class="auto-style34"><small><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14.6667px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; display: inline !important; float: none;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; display: inline !important; float: none;" class="auto-style34"><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Calibri, &quot;sans-serif&quot;; font-size: 14.6667px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; display: inline !important; float: none;"><strong>This Week's Wrap-Up</strong>:&nbsp; In the American Association All-Star Game, the East Division defeated the West Division 9-2.
